The Workshop opened in 1985 as a re-upholstery business but when Martin joined in 1987 he rapidly established the curtain making and design side.
Katherine is assisted by Kathy her Supervisor who is fully qualified in Interior Design and Decorating and shares the obvious passion for fabric and hand-made soft furnishings that is so obvious in the workshop. (Known affectionately as H.Q.) Evelyn and Hazel the youngsters in the team have been trained in-house and at Yeovil College.
Traditional and modern upholstery is carried out by Linda who is a City & Guilds qualified traditional upholsterer. Loose covers and cushions are beautifully made by Katrina.
Great care is taken in the making of our customer’s curtains, pelmets, blinds etc yet the atmosphere in the workshop is fun. The walls of the workshop are covered with unfinished curtains hung upside down from curtain poles so that the fabric, linings and interlinings can breathe and adjust to the atmosphere. After a few days the curtains are taken down and the finished heading tapes are sewn on, or in some cases hand-pleating is carried out. Result – pure perfection fabric, interlining and lining as one.
Pelmets, Tracks or Poles are fitted buy our friendly “Mike the Tracker” who has a vast experience of fitting traditional wood, brass, or iron to the contemporary satin nickel and even glass poles!!
Finished curtains are hung and dressed under Martin’s or Katherine’s supervision allowing plenty of time for drawing up the cords and dressing the curtain into even folds. Tie-backs are carefully positioned to add additional detail to the room.
“All our customers are warmly welcome to the Workshop to see the quality of our work or discuss finer points and details, “adds Katherine. |
